Role Description
The Department of Economics and Related Studies is a leading economics department with a strong global reputation. As one of the largest economics departments in the country, we offer a great diversity of research expertise and research-led teaching. Our academic community of staff, students and visitors is both intellectually vibrant and international in perspective.

We are seeking to appoint several Lecturers in Economics and Related Studies, beginning in September 2026. You will consolidate and extend the international reputation of the department within a world-class and vibrant research environment.

You will; lead lectures/seminars to undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervise students, set and mark assessments/examinations.

With a strong commitment to the promotion of excellence in research, and in teaching and learning, you will contribute to and complement our existing research strengths. You will be developing an outstanding research record undertaking high-quality, innovative research and seeking to publish in leading journals.

You will have begun to establish a record of publications in leading international journals. Evidence of a research profile and publications is required.

Role

  • Develop research objectives, projects and proposals. Carry out individual or collaborative research projects.
  • Lead on and/or contribute to the production of research outputs/outcomes.
  • Design, develop and deliver teaching across a wide range of modules and/or within a particular programme/subject area.
  • Undertake effectively a range of administrative/managerial responsibilities.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

  • A PhD, or equivalent experience in Economics or a related discipline is essential. Plus, appropriate academic professional and teaching qualifications or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

You will have:

  • Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals. Well-developed analytical skills, excellent IT skills.
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills, including ability to write and/or contribute to publications and/or disseminate research findings using appropriate media.
  • Ability to deliver presentations at conferences or exhibit work at other appropriate events internally and externally.
  • Ability to extend, transform and apply knowledge from scholarship; to design teaching material and deliver across a range of modules or within a subject area.
  • Ability to supervise the work of others, e.g. in research teams or projects or as an MSc, PhD or postdoctoral supervisor.
  • Proven ability to contribute to high quality research which is publicly evidenced.
  • Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate (and ideally) postgraduate level.
  • Evidence of successful course planning, design and delivery across a range of modules, with exemplification of teaching materials.
  • Evidence of dissemination of research findings which may include: presentation of papers at conferences and workshops; participation in public engagement events to disseminate research; publishing of chapters in textbooks; publishing of papers; articles or reviews in academic journals or elsewhere; construction of websites.
