Main duties and responsibilities
The post holder will be required to manage consumables purchases and occasional equipment purchases for the school of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences. They will also need to maintain stock levels as required by the various departments in the school. Everything will need to be carried out in a safe and correct manner to ensure local and national Health & Safety regulations are adhered to.
Duties also include checking, accepting and processing goods inwards, ensuring correct and regulatory provision is made to move and store specialist and hazardous substances. Additionally, hazardous substances, when in waste form, will also require correct storage and disposal management.
The post holder may also be required to assist with general duties in laboratories and school laundry, to support colleagues in the school. There will also be a need to carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) for the school, which involves keeping good records of tested items.
Most of these duties will require an understanding of computer systems and a need to maintain accurate records for audit purposes.
Skills and experience required
You will have experience of working in a science environment, with the ability to follow set procedures and complex instructions comprehensively. This post involves manual handling on a regular basis to move items around Stores and throughout the school, so it is essential that you are able to carry out work involving manual handling.
Good communication skills are required as you will be expected to communicate with HML staff, staff in other departments, students, and external suppliers & contractors. Good numeracy and IT Skills, and an understanding of basic health and safety are required for this role.
You will be able to work unsupervised and efficiently to deadlines, and as part of a team when required. Flexibility, adapatability and reliability is essential, in addition you will have good time keeping and a methodical approach and attention to detail.
You will need to administer all aspects of running a successful Stores facility, including post and parcel management, stock control and all other duties. Previous experience of these duties will prove highly desirable.
Qualifications required
Educated with a minimum of five GCSEs at grade C/4 or above including Maths and English, or equivalent, or proven experience
