Reporting to: Head of the Cloud Competency Centre

The National College of Ireland is seeking an innovative Postdoctoral Research Associate to join the Cloud Competency Centre (CCC). The individual will be expected to conduct research in computer systems, with a broad interest on Systems Architecture and High Performance Computing (HPC).

Purpose:

The successful candidate will be affiliated with the CCC, a centre bridging HPC, Data Analytics, Open Data, and Advanced Digital Skills, where we recognise the evolving landscape of work and provide a flexible work environment to accommodate our diverse team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and carry out a work programme aligned with the objectives of the CCC EU-funded project portfolio such as
    • develop and deploy code;
    • write postgraduate modules and training materials;
    • compose project deliverables;
    • write and present conference papers; and,
    • write journal articles.
  • Contribute to developing and enhancing the research profile of the Centre.
  • Collaborate in suitable research activities in Ireland and, when circumstances allow, abroad in subject-related areas.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties requested by the CCC Head.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • A PhD in Computer Science or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong coding skills in C/C++/Python/Java and solid working knowledge and experience of HPC platforms and software engineering principles.
  • Relevant interpersonal skills and ability to build productive working relationships with diverse researchers and senior staff in an international environment.
  • Ability to balance research tasks and competing deadlines in EU-funded projects.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

SALARY: €37,271 - €57,027 (ACADEMIC I SALARY BAND).

ANNUAL LEAVE: 34 DAYS.

CONTRACT: THE POST IS FULL-TIME FOR A 24-MONTH FIXED TERM TO START ON 5TH OF JANUARY 2026 OR IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER.
