Role Summary

The Lecturer / Senior Lecturer is a new role which will contribute to the teaching and assessment on the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Industry Practice course.

The postholder will work across the College’s undergraduate course provision to design and deliver relevant learning experiences for students studying at levels 4-6. The ideal candidate will have the expertise, enthusiasm and communication skills to inspire our diverse cohort of students and should be an expert in all or a selection of the below disciplines:

  • Fashion branding, marketing and PR (theory, practice and strategy)
  • Consumer behaviour and insight
  • Digital media strategy and social media marketing
  • Fashion business and entrepreneurship

The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate academic flexibility as well as a strong commitment to the learning experience and pastoral care of students. They will support students intellectually and creatively as they develop their responses to set assignments and tasks. The postholder is required to engage in subject discipline and pedagogical development to ensure relevance and currency in their teaching practice and appropriate academic support to students.

Contract: Part-time (2 days per week - 0.40fte), and permanent

Location: Vogue College of Fashion – London

Reports to: BA Course Leader

Salary: £50,000-£55,000 (Lecturer), £55,000-£60,000 (Senior Lecturer)

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the learning and teaching on the BA (Hons) Fashion Communication & Industry Practice Programme across levels 4-6.
  • Teach / lead specified BA modules delivered at the College as directed by the BA Course Leader and in accordance with the College learning and teaching strategy.
  • Support the College and academic team with student recruitment, including applicant interviews, and other relevant recruitment activities.
  • Provide a high standard learning experience for students, as well as coordinating support for those with additional learning needs.
  • Design appropriate learning experiences for taught sessions and provide relevant learning materials for all assigned classes, ensuring materials and information are available to students in a timely manner.
  • Provide effective formative and summative feedback to students, ensuring clear and timely delivery with reference to set assessment criteria.
  • Conduct 1-2-1 progress tutorials and small group seminars with students.
  • Monitor attendance and engagement, and support students in their learning, development and progress.
  • Ensure QA procedures are adhered to and that relevant module reports are completed.
  • Support preparation for Exam Boards and materials for External Examiners as required.
  • Reflect on own academic practice and identify opportunities for enhancement that will contribute to an exceptional student experience.
  • Undertake relevant reporting, writing reflective and statistical reports for internal and external review.
  • Attend relevant staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Contribute to College activities as relevant.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Degree level qualification in relevant Fashion related subject (not fashion design)
  • Demonstrated prior teaching experience at HE level with module leadership
  • PGCert Education or equivalent teaching qualification
  • Extensive relevant teaching and professional experience
  • An ability to work within a small committed academic and administrative team
  • Innovative approaches in learning and teaching practice that supports a student centred and inclusive approach
  • Strong communicator, visually, verbally and in writing, adapting the message for a diverse audience in an inclusive and accessible way
  • Expert in one or more of the following subject areas:
    • Fashion branding, marketing and PR (theory, practice and strategy)
    • Consumer behaviour and insight
    • Digital media strategy and social media marketing
    • Fashion business and entrepreneurship 

Senior Lecturer level, candidates must have:

  • Experience of designing and writing modules level 4-6
  • Experience of writing assessment criteria and rubrics
  • Experience of moderating assessments
  • Experience of module reviews, reflecting on best practice and undertaking relevant minor module modifications.
