The University of the West of Scotland is seeking an experienced and collaborative academic leader to lead our innovative partnership with Wuxi Taihu University. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of transnational education while living and working in a dynamic, culturally rich environment.

You’ll provide academic leadership and operational management for our programmes and staff in China, ensuring excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student experience. Reporting to the Dean of the School of Computing, Engineering & Physical Sciences, you’ll act as the key operational link between UWS and WTU. The Teaching Lead will offer strong, dynamic, and inspirational leadership while playing a critical role in developing high-quality education to support the school’s international growth strategy.

The Scotland Academy and the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) partnership offer the following programs:

  • BSc (Hons) in Cyber Security
  • BEng (Hons) in Engineering Management
  • BSc (Hons) in Web and Mobile Development

The post holder will reside in China to act as the key operational link between the Scotland Academy and the University of the West of Scotland.

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • PhD or equivalent professional qualification in Computing or Cyber Security Evidence of Continuous Professional Development
  • Academic line management experienceA successful record of academic leadership and management in a university or other relevant context, successfully integrating high quality education, research, knowledge exchange and engagement.
  • Experience and knowledge of academic quality assurance and quality enhancement systems.
  • Experience of inclusive curriculum development that demonstrate equality good practice and innovation in both pedagogy and the student experience.
  • Experience of developing innovative means of subject delivery.
  • Experience of managing academic change.
  • Active involvement in relevant subject networks/professional organisations.
  • Experience of effective planning, organising and problem solving.
  • The University will support candidates with the necessary work permits to work in the country.

About Wuxi Taihu University

Wuxi Taihu University is a full-time, multidisciplinary application-oriented undergraduate university approved by the Ministry of Education, located in Wuxi urban area, national forest park, covering an area of 2,000 acres, more than 25,000 teachers and students, known as the "university in the garden", adjacent to Shanghai, convenient transportation, beautiful scenery. Founded in 2002, the university was approved as a master's degree granting project construction unit in 2017 from Jiangnan University, a century-old "double first-class" university. In the latest "2025 Ranking of Chinese Universities", Wuxi Taihu University ranks fifth among similar universities in China and first among similar universities in Jiangsu Province.

Remuneration Package

The salary range for the role is £72,692 – £81,393, with initial placement likely to be at the starting point of the scale, subject to experience.

£8,000 International Teaching Payment granted on completion of a successful probation for the Teaching Lead

Expatriate benefits will be available to eligible applicants, such as a relocation allowance, housing allowance, medical insurance, medical allowance, allowance for personal laptop use, assistance relocating family members.

Interview Date: Virtual interviews will be held during the week commencing 17th November 2025, followed by in-person second interviews in London during the week commencing 1st December 2025.
