Do you love admin, organising people and working in museums?

This is an exciting opportunity for a part-time (paid) administrator to assist the Volunteer Co-ordinator with the day-to-day delivery of the Museums Partnership Reading volunteering programme at The Museum of English Rural Life on Redlands Road, and at Reading Museum in the town centre.

In any given year, our diverse cohort of 200 volunteers donate their time in a wide range of interesting roles. You will get to know this amazing group of people, and help us to encourage new volunteers to feel part of the team. You will be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the digital volunteering platform Better Impact.

You will:

  • Use your ability to juggle priorities and effectively manage tasks against deadlines
  • Use your strong IT skills to update websites and volunteer management systems
  • Employ your excellent interpersonal skills to help welcome and induct new volunteers, promote vacancies at community events, and liaise with volunteers for upcoming social events
  • Apply your knowledge and passion for equity and inclusion to help engage and sustain our diverse volunteering pool
  • Bring your experience of gathering data to present accurate reporting information
  • Use your excellent copy-writing skills to draft newsletters and blogs
  • Understand current data protection and health and safety regulations

The post is for two days a week, but we can be flexible about when the hours are worked. There is a space in the office for you, but there is the opportunity to work from home for some of the tasks, as you will be supplied with a personal work laptop.

This role is fixed term until March 2027.

We welcome applications from both external and internal candidates. As part of the University’s ongoing commitment to professional development, this role can be considered on a seconded basis for existing staff members. Internal candidates should discuss this with their line manager prior to applying.

  • A DBS check is required for this position
