Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 17th October 2025
Closes: 16th November 2025
Job Ref: SA47653

An opportunity has arisen to join a Building Services team to look after the Keith Peters Building, based on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. This building houses the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) and the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit (MBU) and forms part of the University of Cambridge's School of Clinical Medicine.

We are seeking an Electrician or an individual with significant electrical experience to join our in-house Building Services Team. The successful candidate will have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship and/or hold a suitable qualification such as Level 2 or 3 in Electro-technical Technology Installation (Buildings and Structures) or the 17th or 18th Edition of the IEE Wiring Regulations. Relevant experience within a mechanical and electrical maintenance environment will be highly advantageous.

The role includes:

Installation work, lighting repairs, fault finding, routine maintenance checks and breakdown repairs. You will be required to work on all aspects of the electrical system, undertaking minor electrical installations and rewiring of low voltage systems (single phase and three-phase) works; assisting in the design, testing and commissioning of same. The Building has a large amount of plant and machinery so a good knowledge of motors, fans and pumps is desirable but training will be given as necessary. The role holder will also be required to assist external contractors and University Estate Division personnel when on-site and as needed.

The role holder will also assist with minor works and alterations to the building fabric, including planning, sourcing equipment and materials, and carrying out tasks such as decorating and 'making good' with approval from the Building Services Manager. They will also contribute to minor alterations in office and laboratory areas, including the installation of benching, desking, shelving, cupboards, and pre-manufactured furniture, as well as minor modifications to existing layouts.

You will need to be able to use your initiative, work unsupervised, and prioritise your work whilst being an integral part of a team. It is essential that you can demonstrate a flexible attitude and have good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills. You will also be required to assist other tradesmen in their duties and may be required to attend the Building for out-of-hours emergencies or to carryout scheduled maintenance that cannot be conducted during normal working periods.
