Research Associate in Epidemiology

Imperial College London - Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Location: London, White City
Salary: £49,017 to £57,472
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 20th October 2025
Closes: 14th November 2025
Job Ref: MED05455

About the role:

We’re seeking a talented and motivated postdoctoral researcher with expertise in nutritional or cancer epidemiology and/or evidence synthesis methods to join the CUP Global team at Imperial College. You will lead systematic evaluations of research evidence on the role of diet, nutrition, anthropometric characteristics, physical activity, and sedentary behaviour on cancer risk.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a high-impact international research programme that shapes global recommendations on cancer prevention and survivorship.

What you would be doing:

Our team is at the forefront of the Global Cancer Update Programme (CUP Global), an established international research programme of the World Cancer Research Fund International (WCRF). The team at Imperial is generously supported by a long-term commitment of WCRF since 2007.

WCRF’s CUP Global evaluates evidence on the role of diet and lifestyle factors on cancer prevention and prognosis. The critical appraisals of the evidence produced by our group are reviewed by an independent International Expert Panel to develop recommendations for the public and cancer survivors. The programme has yielded numerous publications in leading scientific journals, and its recommendations are used by the public, regulatory agencies and policy makers internationally.

You will be part of a multidisciplinary team including epidemiologists, biostatisticians, nutritionists, and other staff. You will be involved in all steps of the methodology for conducting systematic literature reviews, meta-analyses and umbrella reviews of published data from epidemiological studies.

You will work closely with the other team members to conduct the research, prepare scientific reports and publications, and applications to secure external research funding. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with other researchers within Imperial, at WCRF and with international experts involved in CUP Global.

What we are looking for:

We are looking to appoint a dedicated post-doctoral researcher with:

  • a background in epidemiology, nutrition, biostatistics, or other related disciplines
  • strong analytical skills and demonstrated experience in evidence synthesis
  • initiative and motivation, and ability to work both independently and as part of a team to produce high-quality research.

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to join a leading research team at the forefront of systematic evaluations of research evidence in nutritional and lifestyle factor epidemiology
  • Work at the intersection of epidemiology, biostatistics and evidence synthesis, participating in the development of new tools and techniques in this field
  • Grow your career with tailored training programmes for academic staff
  • Sector-leading salary and remuneration package (including 39 days off a year and generous pension schemes)
  • Be part of a diverse, inclusive and collaborative work culture with various staff networks and resources to support your personal and professional wellbeing.

Further Information

This role is full time, fixed term for 12 months (with the potential to extend the post beyond that term, depending on confirmation of funding and post-holder performance)

The post-holder will be accountable to the CUP Global Principal Investigators (PIs) at Imperial, Dr Doris Chan and Dr Kostas Tsilidis.

For further information please contact Dr Eduardo Seleiro (e.seleiro@imperial.ac.uk).
