About us

The LMCB opened in 1993 as one of the first centres dedicated to molecular cell biology in the UK. The Division has a strong international reputation for research excellence, with staff and PhD students working together to understand the fundamental principles of cell biology relevant to human disease.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Stromal Immunology Lab led by Professor Sophie Acton. The Stromal immunology lab is funded by Cancer Research UK and the Wellcome Trust to investigate stromal/immune crosstalk mechanisms and functions in the formation and function of tertiary lymphoid structures in chronic inflammation and cancer.

About the role

We are looking to recruit a full time, grade 7 Research Fellow to work on our tumour microenvironment projects. Research questions are focussed around the formation and function of tertiary lymphoid structures and the crosstalk between immune cells and stromal cells to support immune function in inflamed tissues. Research projects are conducted as part of a team, working closely with other research fellows, research assistants and PhD students to deliver the project goals.

  • This is a fixed-term role for 1 year (in the first instance)
  • Research Fellows - 'Appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Grade 6B (salary £37,332 - £39,980 per annum) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD Thesis.'

About you

The successful candidate will be part of the Stromal Immunology Laboratory led by Professor Sophie Acton at the LMCB, University College London.

The candidate should possess:

  • PhD in relevant subject area; Immunology/Cell biology/Cancer Biology or similar
  • Proven knowledge of research techniques and methodologies relevant to in vivo immunology and cancer research
  • Evidence of a publication record in good quality publications
  • Knowledge and practical experience of flow cytometry
  • Knowledge and practical experience of confocal microscopy
  • Knowledge and practical experience of coding relevant to RNA sequencing data analysis
  • Demonstratable experience of leading projects to publication in subjects of immunology and/or cancer biology, including experiences of molecular biology, cell culture, genetics and biochemistry techniques
