Are you an experienced metalworker with a passion for sharing your knowledge and inspiring the next generation of creatives? We are offering an exciting opportunity to join the Technical Team at our Farnham Campus as a Technical Tutor in Metalwork and Casting, where you will play a pivotal role in shaping students’ learning through hands-on, practice-led teaching.
This role goes beyond technical support, as a Technical Tutor, you will take an active role in students’ creative development by delivering engaging workshops, demonstrations, and one-to-one technical tuition. You’ll work closely with students from a range of creative disciplines, guiding them through processes such as cutting, forming, fabrication, metal finishing, and casting in materials such as bronze and pewter. Whether they are experimenting for the first time or pushing the boundaries of their practice, your support will be instrumental in helping them turn ideas into physical outcomes.
You will also be responsible for the day-to-day operation and upkeep of our well-equipped metalworking facilities. Your expertise will ensure that all processes are carried out to a high standard, with a strong emphasis on safe working practices. A thorough knowledge of health and safety procedures related to metalwork processes and the use of specialist equipment, is essential.
We are looking for someone who brings not only technical ability but also a genuine enthusiasm for teaching and learning. You’ll need to be approachable, adaptable, and confident in supporting students of all experience levels. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are key, as is the ability to problem-solve, work collaboratively, and create an inclusive learning environment where students feel supported and encouraged to take creative risks.
As part of our university community, you will be working in a forward-thinking and supportive environment. We value ongoing development and offer a range of professional training opportunities through our Learning & Organisational Development department, helping you to build on your existing skills and grow in your role.
If you are ready to use your specialist knowledge to make a real impact on the creative journeys of our students, we would love to hear from you.
