About Jisc:
For 30 years Jisc has pioneered digital solutions for UK education and research, transforming how knowledge is created, shared and used.
We are uniquely positioned to protect, promote and lead the sector in digital and data transformation, making a difference to students, communities and society. Together, we are working to build a better digital future for education and research.
The role:
Jisc is seeking to appoint a new independent member to our Audit and risk management committee. The Audit and risk management committee reports into the Jisc board. In order to support a balance of skills and experience across the committee, we are looking for a qualified accountant with recent and relevant accounting expertise, ideally with broad experience in audit. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who brings strong financial acumen and is ready to contribute to strategic oversight of a national organisation.
The Audit and Risk Management committee has a key role in ensuring that the Jisc Group and each company within it has adequate and appropriate internal controls and that the integrity of the financial statements of the Group and its subsidiary companies are beyond dispute. The committee also monitors the work and effectiveness of the internal audit function. Reference should be made to the full committee terms of reference to ensure the role of the committee and its responsibilities are understood.
Committee members are not remunerated for their role. However, Jisc will reimburse reasonable travel and subsistence expenses incurred while attending meetings or events necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the position. To ensure new members are well-prepared and confident in their role, a comprehensive induction programme is provided on appointment.
This role responsibilities include:
Experience Skills & personal qualities
Serving on a committee requires a strategic and advisory approach, distinct from the hands-on nature of executive roles. Committee members play a vital role and may be considered for future vacancies on our board of trustees.
Our Guiding Principles:
Jisc’s culture is powered by our four guiding principles: putting customers first, driving innovation, creating impact, and championing inclusive collaboration to deliver sustainable outcomes and shape a better future.
Equity, diversity and inclusion:
Jisc believe our people make all the difference in cultivating an inclusive culture that welcomes ideas, encourages innovation, and values belonging.
We work hard to create an equitable experience for our candidates and workforce which embraces all aspects of their identity including race and ethnicity, religion and belief, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, trans identities, age, class, disability, neurodivergence, or veteran status.
Application process:
Applicants are invited to submit a cover letter and a CV, detailing the skills, experience and qualifications they would bring to this role.
The closing date for applications is 11:59pm on 24th October 2025.
You can contact governance@jisc.ac.uk if you have any questions.
Candidates will be advised of the outcome of the application process as soon as possible and the role will begin as soon as possible.
Please let us know how we can best accommodate you throughout the recruitment process. We’re committed to making our process accessible and comfortable for everyone - just tell us what works best for you.
