This strategic appointment represents a bold step in our commitment to Better Business, Better Society, Better Future. It offers an opportunity to create cutting-edge research at the nexus of global finance, environmental risk management, and policy reform - supporting transition strategies that are financially viable, scalable, and societally impactful.

Why This Role Matters

Industry Impact - You’ll lead a pioneering research programme designed in collaboration with Intercontinental Exchange, an international market leader in financial markets - shaping world-changing, impactful practices across sectors with scalable, actionable insights that reflect real business needs now and in the future.

Research Excellence - Believed to be the first professorial role in Carbonomics globally, this appointment will place you at the forefront of an emerging discipline, positioning the University of Derby as an international hub for research innovation in carbon economics and green finance.

Social Purpose - As a civic institution committed to social mobility and public good, your work will extend beyond the academic realm, helping bridge the gap between environmental economics, regulation, and capital markets - contributing to policy dialogues, guiding investor strategies, and creating financial solutions that support a just transition.

Innovation and Research at the University of Derby - At the University of Derby, our research is driven by purpose and impact. We are dedicated to tackling real-world challenges through innovation, and our work is structured around six cross-University Academic Research themes that align with critical local and global priorities.

The Professor of Carbonomics will play a pivotal role within this ecosystem and will establish the cutting-edge Institute of Carbonomics - a ground-breaking research centre spanning both our Zero Carbon Research Theme, and our Business, Economic and Social Policy Research Theme. This cross-disciplinary environment provides a dynamic platform for collaboration, creativity, and meaningful change.
