Summary
We are seeking an International Relations lecturer to join our Keele-BFSU BA in International Governance and Public Policy, delivering UK undergraduate IR modules in Beijing, starting in either March or September 2026. Our dual-degree programme has been running since 2018, attracting high-achieving students who continue their third-year studies at Keele University campus in the UK before returning to Beijing Foreign Studies University for their final year. If you are a dedicated professional looking for a rewarding teaching role in a dynamic international setting, then we want to hear from you.
Details of Position
We are looking to appoint a teacher who will be expected to deliver core undergraduate International Relations subjects such as Intro to IR Theories; Global Political Economy; and Securing Global Order. The position is a full-time teaching post based in Beijing with a teaching load of up to twenty class hours a week, which usually corresponds to delivering two modules per semester. We have two 12-week semesters per year, followed by an assessment period and several weeks of marking. We pride ourselves on having a high level of staff retention and we are committed to continuing professional development.
Qualifications
We require a relevant PhD with two years’ teaching experience. Candidates with a background teaching International Relations, Political Science, International Political Economy, and Security Studies are encouraged to apply. Experience of the UK higher education system and of working in, or with students from, the Chinese tertiary education sector will be an advantage. Final-year undergraduate modules at Keele are mainly taught in a seminar format, so candidates will be expected to prove their competence in leading undergraduate seminars and to show evidence of having a reflective approach to their teaching.
Salary and Benefits
We are offering a monthly salary of 26,460 RMB, health insurance, flights to and from Beijing and an apartment on campus or a 7,000 RMB monthly housing allowance if you prefer to live off campus. We will assist in finding an apartment. Contracts are initially for either 16 months (March 2025 – June 2026) or 10 months (Sept 2026 – June 2026), but renewable, and we are seeking staff members who wish to commit longer term (subject to fulfilling the requirement for a Chinese work visa). You will be employed by Overseas Education Investment Management, a professional education services company with a strong track record of delivering UK degree programmes in China, and be appointed as a lecturer at BFSU and an associate tutor at Keele. We offer all full-time staff the opportunity to study for a fully funded Postgraduate Certificate in International Education (PGCIE), as well as a full MA in Education.
