Are you passionate about supporting international students to thrive in a new country.
We’re looking for an International Student Mentor to help students stay, settle, and succeed at university.
In this rewarding role, you’ll provide a combination of one-to-one mentoring sessions and creative group activities from mindful walks and games afternoons to discussion groups on stress management, procrastination, and navigating cultural adjustment. You’ll support students with diverse needs, including students with ADHD, autism, disabilities, and mental health challenges, helping them build resilience, plan their time, and achieve their goals.
You’ll be educated to degree level or equivalent, have counselling skills and current membership of a professional body such as BACP, UMHAN. You will hold your own caseload of students, assessing individual needs, offering inventive and flexible support, and keeping in touch via email, phone, and face-to-face meetings. You’ll also attend campus events such as Fresher Fairs and Mental Health Days to promote the service and connect with students.
We’re looking for someone who is warm, approachable, and genuinely curious about different cultures. You’ll be resilient under pressure, adaptable, and able to inspire students to take positive steps forward. Experience in mentoring, counselling, or group facilitation is essential, as is cultural sensitivity and an ability to recognise when students need specialist support.
If you’re ready to make a lasting difference to students’ lives and help them, feel at home, we’d love to hear from you.
Apply now and be part of shaping a supportive, welcoming university experience for international students.
Please forward your CV and an additional statement to say how you feel you meet the needs of the role to Kate Pitchforth – K.A.Pitchforth@kent.ac.uk
