Project Description:
The Join Us: Move Play (JUMP) whole-system approach to physical activity in children and young people has been operational in Bradford since 2019. Recent evidence has found that the JUMP whole-system approach and neighbourhood model has been effective at improving levels of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity and reducing time spent sedentary (see www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.03.20.25324322v1). Further Sport England funding means that the JU:MP programme, as part of Active Bradford, has the opportunity to develop a universal district-wide physical activity offer. The current PhD will work alongside academics at the University of Bradford and Born in Bradford to support Active Bradford in co-developing the universal offer and evaluating the implementation and/ or effectiveness of the programme with system partners and/or children and their families. Due to the project's magnitude, we are open to applicants proposing a PhD that aligns with one (or more) of the following themes:
To understand the effectiveness of the Bradford Universal Offer on children’s physical activity levels and behaviours.
To understand the effectiveness of the Bradford Universal Offer on system partners' behaviour in creating an effective whole-system physical activity offer.
To understand the co-development and implementation of Bradford Universal Offer from different stakeholder perspectives.
