Guaranteed Hours Contract
Fixed term: expected contract length of 24 months
We are looking for an experienced clinician with expertise and further qualifications in Equine Internal Medicine to contribute to the “out of hours” clinical care and final year teaching provision; primarily for our equine hospital, but occasionally for our ambulatory practice.
This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the emergency “out-of-hours” service provided by our current clinical team, within a top-ranking UK veterinary school. The post holder will work in our highly-equipped equine hospital and provide clinical expertise at a level in line with an expert in the field of equine internal medicine. They will work alongside other members of the “out-of-hours” team, comprised of a duty intern and an “on call” resident, nurse, senior surgeon, anaesthesia resident and anaesthesia senior. They will join the senior Equine Internal Medicine out-of-hours rota (currently an “on-call” frequency of 1-in-4; subject to review dependent on operational need). They will take responsibility for referred emergencies and hospitalised in-patients which require or warrant specialised equine internal medicine input with regard to diagnostic and/or therapeutic approaches and interventions. In particular, the post-holder will work closely with the duty intern and “on-call” resident, offering guidance on appropriate case management and practical assistance with diagnostic approaches when required. In addition, the post holder will contribute towards the tutelage of final year undergraduate students during their “out-of-hours” component of their equine teaching block (core and selected).
Through their contribution to the “out-of-hours” clinical service, the post holder will help to enhance and maintain the professional reputation of the equine service amongst referring veterinary practices and the horse-owning public serviced by these practices.
