The Governing Body of St Catharine’s College invites applications for election to a Junior Research Fellowship tenable from 1 October 2026 for three years.
The Fellowship is open to those who are engaged in research in any aspect of:
Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, Biological Sciences (Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Genetics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Development and Neuroscience, Plant Sciences, Psychology, Zoology), Medical Sciences, Physics, Veterinary Sciences.
This Fellowship is intended to support those at an early stage in their academic careers and will normally be awarded to candidates who have recently completed their PhD research, or are close to completion. Candidates should not have been engaged in full-time post-doctoral research for more than one year, nor have already held a College Research Fellowship elsewhere.
Stipendiary Early Career Research Fellows will receive a stipend at point 31 on the university scale of stipends, if post submission of PhD. Before submission of PhD the stipend will be set at Point 27 of the University scale. As of 1 August 2025, Point 31 of the University scale is £29,497 and Point 27 is £26,745 p.a. The stipend is pensionable. Accommodation is available in the College, and a dining allowance is also included. Applications are also welcome for a non-stipendiary Fellowship from candidates who have secured external research funding for three years from 1 October 2026, for example, from the British Council, Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, Leverhulme Trust, Wellcome Trust, etc.
