The Department of Mathematics at Aarhus University invites applications for a full-time position as Statistician (Technical Administrative Personnel) to join the Applied Statistics Laboratory (aStatLab).

The position is available from 1 March 2026, or as soon as possible thereafter, and is offered as a three-year fixed-term contract.

The Statistician will contribute to applied statistical analyses and data management across a range of collaborative research and advisory activities conducted within aStatLab, working closely with senior statisticians and researchers.

Job responsibilities

  • Conduct statistical analyses under the supervision of academic staff (VIPs) at the aStatLab.
  • Prepare, clean, and manage datasets for analysis.
  • Contribute to documentation, reporting, and reproducibility of analyses.
  • Support research teams in the application of statistical methods and software tools.
  • Participate in internal discussions on statistical methodology and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of data management and analysis workflows.

Qualifications

The following qualifications are desirable for the position, but none are strict prerequisites:

  • A relevant academic degree (Master’s or PhD) in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Quantitative Biology, or a related field.
  • Experience with applied statistical analysis and data handling.
  • Understanding of data structures, experimental design, and reproducible workflows.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work both independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience with governmental, environmental, or agricultural data.

Work environment

The Applied Statistics Laboratory (aStatLab) is part of the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Aarhus University. aStatLab provides applied statistical consulting, analysis, and research support across the university. The position offers an opportunity to work in an interdisciplinary environment with a focus on high-quality statistical practice and methodological development.
