The role 

There are 2 positions available, one on a permanent basis and one as a 1-year maternity cover. 

Reporting to the Senior Library Assistant, these roles are part of the first interaction users have with our library service. You will provide information and support to library users as part of the main service desk operations and be part of a regular rota (including an evening and/or a Saturday afternoon each week.). You will be helping to ensure that the library offers a welcoming and inclusive environment to the NHS staff, clinical students and other members of the University. 

As a Library Assistant, you will:

  • Be part of the Collection Management Team enabling resources, both printed and electronic to be available and discoverable to library users.
  • Be part of the Enquiry Support Team, providing information and support to library users as part of the main service desk.

Working patterns: 

The maternity cover position is 0.55 FTE, with a 2-week working pattern

Week 1: Monday (08:00-16:00), Tuesday (08:00-16:00), Saturday (12:45-17:00) Week 2: Monday (08:00-16:00), Tuesday (08:00-16:00), Thursday (12:45-20:00). 

While the Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon shifts are essential, we have some flexibility with the remaining hours. 

The permanent position is 0.5FTE, with a 2-week working pattern

Week 1: Wednesday (09:00-17:00), Thursday (09:00-17:00), Friday (12:45-17:00); Week 2: Wednesday (12:45-20:00), Thursday (09:00-17:00), Friday (12:45-17:00). 

While the Wednesday evening shifts are essential, we have some flexibility with the remaining hours.
