About the role
Department of Engineering Science has developed a strong research collaboration with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) of Japan, one of the global leaders in energy technologies. Based at the Oxford Thermofluids Institute, the Research Engineer will be responsible for managing experimental research and developing experimental capabilities for aerodynamic and heat-transfer measurements in MHI’s high-speed wind tunnel. The role includes managing test campaigns on a high-speed experimental facility, maintaining the experimental equipment, and ensuring safe operation, adherence to good lab practice, and compliance with safety requirements. The research engineer will work closely with other group members in delivering experimental programmes. We invite applications from candidates with a strong background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, or a related discipline, and a keen interest in experimental fluid dynamics & heat transfer. The post is fully funded by MHI and the initial appointment will be for three years.
About you
You should possess a relevant PhD (or close to completion) in Experimental Turbomachinery Aerodynamics and Heat Transfer, strong background experimental techniques, DAQ and Labview. You must possess the organisational skills and initiative to independently manage long-term experimental programmes and equipment, be able to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team and have the written and verbal skills necessary to present scientific ideas clearly.
