The Institute for Ethics in AI at the University of Oxford invites applications for a Visiting Fellowship during the 2026/27 academic year.

This Fellowship is designed to offer an established scholar or practitioner working in an AI-related field the opportunity to undertake a project focused on the ethics of artificial intelligence. The tenure of the Fellowship is nine weeks within an academic term. Applications are welcomed from candidates worldwide and from all universities, and we particularly encourage applications from individuals who are underrepresented within their respective disciplines.

In making its selection, the Institute will give preference to candidates who would particularly benefit from the opportunity to spend time in Oxford pursuing their proposed research project and who would find it difficult to do so without the support of a Visiting Fellowship.

Expectations and Engagement
Visiting Fellows are expected to take an active role in the academic life of the Institute and the wider University, for example, through participation in lectures, seminars, and workshops. Fellows are expected to be resident in Oxford for the duration of the term, attend Institute events, present their research, and engage intellectually with colleagues across the University.

Benefits
The Fellowship offers:

  • Up to nine weeks’ free accommodation in Oxford
  • Economy return airfare
  • Networking allowance
  • Access to the Institute’s hot-desk workspace
  • Oxford University email account
  • Registration with the Bodleian Library
  • Engagement with Institute faculty and participation in Institute events and seminars
  • Access to the library within the Stephen A. Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities

Please note that there is no stipend attached to this Fellowship.

Application Process
It is anticipated that the election will take place by February 2026, with the successful candidate taking up the Fellowship during one of the three terms of the 2026/27 academic year.

All visiting academics must demonstrate that they have appropriate permission to carry out their activities in the UK, which may require obtaining a visa and ATAS certification. Further information is available on the University Staff Immigration Team website.

All data supplied by applicants will be used solely to assess their suitability for the post and will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018.

For full details, please refer to the Visiting Fellowship Policy. Applications should be submitted online using this application form by 12 noon (UK time) on Monday, 5 January 2026.
