About the School of Nursing, Public and Allied Health

The new School of Nursing, Public and Allied Health has been established to strengthen our focus on multidisciplinary education, research, and clinical practice. As part of the Faculty of Health, Innovation, Technology, and Science (HITS), the school plays a pivotal role in advancing the regional healthcare workforce agenda and collaborates with multiple agencies to address current and emerging challenges in health and social care.

Our professoriate and wider academic teams are committed to tackling health inequalities, disease burden, social exclusion, and deprivation across local communities and beyond. Our research is already shaping practice and policy, and we are eager to build on this success.

We are therefore delighted to invite applications for the position of Professor of Nursing to further expand and strengthen our research portfolio.

What we’re looking for

We are seeking an exceptional nurse researcher to join our professoriate. You will have an outstanding record of securing externally competitive research funding, producing high-quality publications, and supervising research students. Working closely with the Pro Vice-Chancellor (Dean), School Directors, Associate Deans, Professional Support Services, and academic colleagues, you will act as a key leader and expert advisor - driving excellence in research, teaching, and innovation. As an authority in the nursing profession, you will bring a strong research profile, a collaborative spirit, and a commitment to advancing nursing practice through innovation and evidence-based approaches.

You will be a Registered Nurse with a Ph.D. in Nursing or a related discipline, a proven record of producing high-quality research, and be able to evidence significant grant acquisition. You will have experience of successfully supervising postgraduate research students and strong leadership, mentorship, and team-building skills. You will also be able to demonstrate an ability to influence practice and policy through research.

You will benefit from our excellent partnerships across the university, health and social care sectors, and commercial organisations. In turn, you will inspire and mentor colleagues - helping them reach their full potential while continuing to achieve your own professional goals.

We offer a supportive and ambitious academic environment that values innovation, collaboration, and impact. You will have access to outstanding research facilities, strong interdisciplinary networks, and the opportunity to shape the future of nursing education and practice within a forward-thinking faculty.

This is a key moment to join a welcoming, ambitious, and research-informed university community that places students at the heart of everything we do. We value and invest in our staff, offering meaningful opportunities for professional development, scholarship support, and clear internal promotion routes.
