We are seeking to appoint an experienced and exceptional individual for the role of Head of Sound Technology to be responsible for the vision, academic leadership and ongoing strategic development for all provision within the subject area, both within the existing longstanding and successful BA (Hons) Sound Technology programme, and in the intersections with current and future provision across the School of Creative Technologies, Design and Enterprise.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines technical ability, operational management, and creative problem-solving. You will have a key teaching role on our Sound Technology programme and associated modules and be responsible for the quality of the student experience, recruitment, induction, tutorial support, assessment, operational management, technical facilities and student outcomes. In collaboration with colleagues the postholder will provide leadership in pedagogic innovation, student experience, oversight of the curriculum and contribute to the successful attainment of taught degree awarding powers. You will also play a key role in further developing a professionally active team of colleagues and a focused departmental portfolio.

The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with a degree or equivalent qualification, and be a subject specialist with significant expertise in the discipline. You will likely have a recognised Higher Education teaching qualification or fellowship of the HEA and have significant practical and professional experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Studio Engineering and Production
  • Audio Post-Production for Film and Television
  • Sound Reinforcement in music and/or theatrical contexts
  • Acoustics and Audio Electronics
  • Broadcast Audio Engineering

You will have the ability to teach up to postgraduate level and within multi-disciplinary contexts, and be familiar with the UK HE landscape, HE pedagogy, assessment strategies, and QA procedures. In addition, a broad knowledge of current and future developments in the audio industries, and of current developments in vocational, graduate, and postgraduate training in the subject area along with experience of liaising with external stakeholders / partners is essential.
