About the role:

We are pleased to offer this excellent opportunity to join our ambitious and encouraging team in the School of Global Affairs, as a Senior Research Operations Officer, providing full post-award support to our School’s research grants. The post holder will provide high-quality and comprehensive administrative, budgetary, and research project support to the School of Global Affairs. The appointee will work closely with academics and researchers to support the day-to-day administration of awards, funded by the European Commission, UKRI, and UK based charities. As a busy and successful research team, the role would be suited to someone who can manage multiple competing priorities, has good attention to detail, and can build and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders, including colleagues in Finance, Human Resources, and the Research Management & Innovation Directorate (RMID). The post holder will be able to work as part of King’s hybrid working model, with a minimum of 2 days per week in the office (Strand Campus). This is a full time post for three years and you will be offered a fixed term contract.

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills & experience:

Essential criteria

  • Experience of managing grants or large-scale projects within HEI (or relevant sector) and a strong understanding of the research funding landscape
  • Clear task management and organisation skills; ability to work under pressure with competing and shifting priorities, deadlines and workload while maintaining a high level of attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with evidence of building good working relationships with stakeholders at all levels both internally and externally
  • Good knowledge and familiarisation with universities policies and procedures including financial, procurement & travel regulations
  • High standard of numeracy with proven financial management and analytical skills
  • Ability to present data in a clear and understandable way
  • A commitment to a culture of equality, diversity, and inclusion, actively addressing areas of potential bias
  • Familiarity with the HR processes including supporting with recruitment

Desirable criteria

  • Understanding of the Worktribe grant application and approval process
  • Experience of managing EU grants
  • Experience of managing grants that involve overseas partners, including being able to proactively consider and appropriately respond to cultural, practical, legal and economic differences in ways of working across countries and organisations
  • Experience of working with and supporting committees
  • Experience of research database management
