Job description

The Department of Advanced Computing Sciences (DACS) at Maastricht University is seeking a new colleague to strengthen our research and education portfolio in Artificial Intelligence for Health. You will have the opportunity to collaborate across disciplines with clinicians, data scientists, and social scientists at Maastricht University Medical Center (MUMC+), the Brightlands campuses, and our partners in European and national research initiatives (e.g. Horizon Europe, NWO). You will be encouraged to develop an independent research line, acquire external funding, and mentor PhD candidates and postdoctoral researchers.

In addition to your research, you will contribute to our top-rated education in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Computer Science. You will help develop and teach courses in AI for Health, or related topics within our Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. Your time will be equally divided between research and education (50/50).

Requirements

We are looking for a colleague who is passionate about research and who enjoys teaching. You feel at home in a strongly international and diverse community like ours. Furthermore, we are looking to welcome a colleague who fosters collaboration at all levels.

Our ideal candidate has:

  • A PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Data Science or a closely related field;
  • A strong research profile in one or more areas of health AI;
  • Demonstrated ability to publish in high-quality venues and collaborate across disciplines;
  • Preferably at least two years of postdoctoral or equivalent experience in academia or industry;
  • Experience in acquiring research funding at national or international level (e.g. Horizon Europe, NWO);
  • Effective communication and teaching skills in English;
  • A strong commitment to responsible, ethical, and transparent AI for health.

What we offer

At Maastricht University, you’ll work in an international, open, and engaged environment. We offer:

  • A 18-month contract with the prospect of a permanent contract based on mutual satisfaction.
  • A gross monthly salary between €4728,00 and €6433,00 (based on full-time employment of 38 hours per week). 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus.
  • 29 vacation days (based on full-time), four additional days off (Carnival Monday and Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day), and the possibility to accrue up to 12 extra days through compensation hours.
  • Flexible working hours, a home office allowance, and the option to work from home.
  • Freedom and space to shape your work independently and develop your ideas.
  • A close-knit community of colleagues to collaborate and grow with.
  • A solid pension plan via ABP, company fitness schemes, and access to various university sports facilities.
  • An inspiring work environment in the heart of Europe.
