English Language/EAP Teachers (native or near-native competence in English)

1. Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Teaching up to a maximum of 20 hours per week (each teaching hour = 45mins)
  2. Teaching preparation and regular lesson planning meetings
  3. Assessment duties (standardization, marking, feedback, moderation activities)
  4. Participation in teaching seminars and professional development training
  5. Coordination and administrative work (course coordination, materials proofreading, student enrolment support, supplementary classes for students with additional support)
  6. Other duties assigned by the line manager

2. Requirements

Essential

  1. Undergraduate degree or above (English language/Applied Linguistics/Education or related fields preferred)
  2. A TESOL qualification (TeflI status:): Cambridge CELTA, Trinity Cert TESOL (or equivalent, which includes assessed teaching practice)
  3. Ideally a minimum of 2 years’ relevant teaching experience, preferably in an EAP context
  4. Organizational, communication and inter-personal skills, ability to work under pressure, ability to lead and work well in teams
  5. Ability to use ICT effectively, including use of a virtual learning environment (e.g. Moodle)

Desirable

  1. TeflQ status: Cambridge DELTA, Trinity Dip TESOL (or equivalent) and/or relevant Masters (e.g. ELT/ TESOL/Applied Linguistics/ TEAP Qualification).
  2. Experience of teaching EAP for engineering/STEM undergraduates

3. Job Salary & Benefits

  1. Successful candidates will be offered a total annual package of up to 300,000 RMB, tailored to your professional and academic qualifications and work experience. This package includes a competitive base salary, Hainan Talent Retention Allowance, housing benefits, and performance-based bonuses.

  3. Assistance with obtaining a work permit and residence permit.
  4. Medical insurance within China.
  5. Annual physical examination, birthday cake card and gift boxes are available for major public holidays.
  6. Paid holidays: 10–12 weeks of paid summer and winter vacation combined with all official public holidays.
  7. Performance-related salary increases.
  8. Fully furnished on-campus accommodation.

Join Our English Language Teaching Team

Our English language (EL) provision is a credit-bearing component of the curriculum, integral to students’ academic success. We provide English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to over 420 undergraduates during their first two academic years of their degrees. The EAP teaching programmes are designed to help them acquire the language proficiency and academic literacy required to complete their degree programmes in English.

For teaching staff, we provide an integrated CPD programme designed and delivered by University of Glasgow teacher educators. We also offer opportunities in areas such as curriculum and syllabus development, materials writing, assessment work and teacher education.
