Founded in 1902, UCL Institute of Education has been shaping policy and helping government, organisations and individuals navigate a changing society for the last 120 years. We embrace collaboration and excellence to create a future that is inclusive and just and have been ranked number one for education every year since 2014 in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.

The Department of Learning and Leadership (DLL) is a large specialist research and teaching department of approximately 110 academic staff. The department is a major world leader in the following subject areas: Early Years and Primary Education, Educational Leadership, Education Policy, and Initial Teacher Education (ITE). We value innovative research, teaching and enterprise in all these areas and combine the very best of research innovation and evidence-based teaching, with a strong commitment to translating our work into policy and practice.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with a first/master’s degree in data science or a related field with a substantial quantitative component. The post holder will lead a cutting-edge innovation project in learning in a brand-new way to the education technology sector. Based at the Learning with Parents’ Bristol office, the KTP Associate will enable Learning with Parents to apply academic rigour to existing data analysis, integrate research-backed insights into the log's core functions, enhance its survey capabilities through expert data analysis, and strengthen its digital tools.

This will involve understanding the functionality of the existing digital reading log and becoming familiar with the existing data sets as well as conducting more complex analysis of the existing Reading Log datasets to address the overarching aims of the project and determining the gaps in the digital reading log, both in terms of its core functionality and its capacity to collect valuable data that meets the needs of Learning with Parents and their strategic aims.

Appointment and salary details

  • Please note that this post is subject to funding from the company and Innovate UK through the Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme and it is subject to a collaboration agreement being agreed between the company and UCL. The post is subject to a 9-month probation period.
  • London Allowance is not included in the salary because the post is based in Bristol. The successful candidate would be working at Learning with Parents, 68 Old Market Street, Bristol, BS2 0EJ.
  • Any offer of employment will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

This post is available for 24 months in the first instance.

About you

Along with a first degree/Masters degree in computer/data science (or related field such as Data Science) with a substantial quantitative component, you will have strong communication skills, a collaborative and self-motivated attitude, and good project management skills that will ensure the KTP Associate fully enjoys the benefits of their unique position at the interface between industry and academia.
