Objective of this post:

The principal objective of the post is to provide teaching, co-ordination and examining of RCSI’s undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy teaching programmes, and to support the implementation of a new physiotherapy curriculum, in the area of Physiotherapy.  In addition, the successful applicant will contribute to the research agenda of the School of Physiotherapy through securing research funding as principal or co-applicant, and publish their research in high quality publications at a level commensurate with experience. 

RCSI is seeking a professional who is passionate about teaching, who would like to contribute to working as an academic in a multicultural environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate initiative and excellent organisation and communication skills.

The post- holder will be based in the School of Physiotherapy.

Specific Responsibilities include:

Teaching:

  • Preparation, delivery and assessment in the broad areas of physiotherapy practice on our undergraduate and post-graduate programmes, as required;
  • Ensure at all times that teaching material is in line with international best practice,
  • Identification of opportunities for Interprofessional Learning and delivery of Interprofessional Education
  • Utilising a student-centred approach to all duties so as to ensure optimal educational outcomes
  • Participating in the delivery of our teaching and learning strategy including the effective use of technology-enhanced learning
  • Liaising with physiotherapists and maintaining and developing the school’s relationship with clinical teaching sites
  • Exploring and facilitating opportunities to enhance public and patient involvement and engagement in education
  • Exploring experiential learning opportunities for students and supporting their career development
  • Participating in cross-functional teams to design and deliver academic programmes
  • Contributing to the quality assurance/quality improvement and accreditation of all programmes delivered in the school
  • Performing other related duties as may be required

Research:

Service:

  • Competent discharge of academic administrative duties and engagement across the School and Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, in aspects such as attendance at examination boards, team meetings, interviewing prospective students etc.
  • Developing and co-ordinating outreach events, open days etc.
  • Supporting students through student affairs initiatives, such as personal tutoring, and other initiatives, as appropriate
  • Complying with statutory legislation and departmental rules and requirements in furtherance of your own, staff and student welfare and safety 

Person Specification Essential:

  • PhD degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy with CORU registration.
  • Competitive research record, as evidenced by peer-reviewed publications in journals of high quality/impact and grant support
  • Strong teaching interest and skill set, as evidenced by experience of, a proven track record in, and enthusiasm for undergraduate teaching and assessment in (“Discipline area”)
  • Enthusiasm for your specialist teaching area and the ability to engage your students to successfully transfer this passion and learning
