The School of Design is seeking to appoint an Hourly Paid Lecturer in Fashion Communication & Styling to join the Fashion Directorate. This role is suited to an experienced practitioner–academic with a strong understanding of the rapidly evolving landscape of fashion communication.

We are looking for an individual who can deliver high-quality teaching across contemporary theoretical, technical and analogue graphic approaches, as well as art direction within fashion and related creative industries. The role holder will have an informed understanding of how AI, emerging technologies, and wider social, cultural and economic shifts are influencing contemporary fashion communication.

The successful candidate will take a lead in the delivery of a portfolio development module for BA Fashion Communication & Styling. Offered within the Faculty of Arts and Creative Industries, the Fashion Communication and Styling programme is inherently collaborative and draws on synergies between AI, photography, film, styling and art direction allowing students to experiment across a broad range of fashion communication perspectives.

The rate of pay is £59.33 per hour for each hour of contact teaching. This rate is 2.5 x the basic rate which is derived from the first spinal point of Middlesex's Grade 7 (Lecturer), with a yearly increment if the work continues beyond one year. For each term there is a further two weeks of pay at the basic rate for each nominal contact hour to cover end of term assessment.

We value diversity amongst our students and staff and welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates, regardless of background. We are a member of Athena SWAN, a gender based charter, the Race Equality Charter, Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and Disability Confident. We are committed to improving employment opportunities for underrepresented groups.

It would be advantageous to have some previous experience of teaching at higher education level, or a relevant teaching qualification/accreditation, though not essential.

Appointments are a maximum of 12 weeks per year, depending on need, with the option of joining the university’s pension scheme.

Hourly rates depend on the type of activity, with teaching generally paid at the enhanced rate.

We particularly welcome applications from gender non-conforming individuals and people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Backgrounds to join the team.  All recruitment decisions will be based on merit.

We are a member of Athena SWAN a gender-based charter, the Race Equality Charter, Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and Disability Confident. We are committed to improving employment opportunities for underrepresented groups.

We have made a positive commitment to employing disabled people and guarantee to interview all disabled candidates who meet the minimum essential criteria for the role, as set out in the role profile.
