The Opportunity:
To ensure the day-to-day activities within a BVS animal facility at the University of Edinburgh are completed to the highest standards and assist I maintaining the effective operation of the Facility. To provide training and support to BVS technicians.
Your skills and attributes for success:
Essential
- Relevant academic/vocational qualifications at HNC level and significant work experience at a senior grade in an animal facility (Desirable).
- Hold a Home Office Personal Licence.
- NACWO qualification (Desirable).
- Proven ability to supervise and mentor members of staff.
- Proven ability to effectively and clearly communicate to a wide variety of staff and researchers at all levels
- Demonstrable knowledge of IT systems including Word, Excel and databases.
- Ability to provide authoritative technical advice to management and other staff members
Desirable
- Registered Animal Technician (RAnTech) professional status
- Experience in the maintenance of complex transgenic breeding programs.
- Experience in surgical techniques
- Experience specifically with Tick@Lab Facility Management database.
- Experience in working with immunocompromised colonies
