The Jeffrey Cheah Biomedical Centre (JCBC) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus. The building is home to the Cambridge Stem Cell Institute (CSCI), the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology & Infectious Disease (CITIID) and the Milner Therapeutics Institute. The JCBC is 18,000M2 state-of-the-art research facilities along with a cafe, seminar room and exhibition space for events. The JCBC currently houses more than 650 staff and students and around 70 research groups and associated core and research facilities which were opened in 2019.
We are currently looking to recruit a Building Services Manager to oversee and manage the smooth delivery of the core facilities services to JCBC occupants. The role holder will be responsible for managing a team to resolve building infrastructure problems, organise core building maintenance and servicing, and oversee relevant equipment. They will work closely with the JCBC Coordinator to achieve this. Other key relationships are with the JCBC Director, JCBC Executive, Institute Business and Operations Managers, and all building occupants. They will be an essential member of relevant building management committees. They will also need to form close working relations with the University Estates Management and external contractors to deliver wide building PPM's and servicing of central building equipment and facilities.
The Building Services Manager has a wide range of duties, including overseeing the support services (managed via a team of 14 staff); such as reception, goods-in, glass wash, media kitchen, specialist gases and liquid supplies (LN2/CO2) and all building waste steams (clinical, chemical and commercial). They also oversee the building wide services such as cleaning, security and any soft facilities management such as contracts for laundry services, mail and vending services.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for this role. Applicants should be educated to degree level or an equivalent level of practical experience, relevant to managing building infrastructure e.g. Mechanical Engineering. Previous experience of building and health and safety management is essential and a working knowledge of laboratory and research facilities is also preferred. The successful candidate will also have experience of managing a large team and complex projects. This position requires excellent organisational skills and provides an opportunity to apply your problem-solving skills to troubleshoot challenging technical and scientific problems.
