Sheffield Hallam University is one of the UK’s largest and most progressive universities: a community of around 32,000 students, 4,000 staff and 330,000 alumni around the globe. Our ambition is clear and bold – to be a world-leading applied university, transforming lives through real-world impact.
We are now seeking to appoint an Executive Dean for our College of Business, Technology and Engineering—one of three academic colleges at Sheffield Hallam. With almost 11,000 students, 500 academic staff and a turnover of £105 million, the College brings together Sheffield Business School, the School of Engineering & Built Environment, and the School of Computing & Digital Technologies, and is home to internationally recognised research and innovation centres. The College’s academic focus spans business, management, computing, digital technologies, engineering and the built environment—disciplines that underpin the University’s mission to deliver education and research with real-world impact.
As Executive Dean, you will provide strategic and academic leadership across the College, ensuring delivery of Sheffield Hallam’s ambition to be a world-leading applied university. Working collaboratively across the institution, you will foster innovation, interdisciplinarity and external partnership, and drive performance improvement in student outcomes, research impact and financial sustainability. You will act as a visible champion for the University’s civic mission and applied research profile and play a leading role in strengthening Sheffield Hallam’s partnerships with industry, business and the wider stakeholder community.
You will be an accomplished senior leader with significant academic or professional experience across a relevant discipline. You will bring evidence of strategic vision, effective organisational leadership and a strong track record in driving excellence in education, research and engagement. Commercial acumen, financial management skills, and the ability to build trusted relationships across sectors will be essential. You will also have a strong commitment to people development, awareness of organisational values and alignment with the University’s ambition to be a leading applied university built on a culture of collaboration, inclusion and sustainability.
