The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint an effective research coordinator to join the Cambridge Clinical Mitochondrial Research Group (MitoCAMB) in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences. MitoCAMB is an interdisciplinary team of clinicians, research coordinators and PIs (with affiliated research laboratories), focussed on understanding the genetic basis and mechanisms of mitochondrial diseases, and other rare inherited neurological disorders.
The MitoCAMB team is funded by various bodies within the UK, EU and internationally, including the NIHR, Wellcome Trust, and Medical Research Council. The group was recently awarded a £7.5 million LifeArc Translational Rare Disease Centres Award to lead the establishment of the LifeArc Centre for Rare Mitochondrial Diseases. Over the next 5 years, with our partners at UCL, the University of Newcastle, The Lily Foundation and MDUK, we aim to establish a national platform to translate novel treatment strategies and biomarkers into clinical trials for mitochondrial diseases.
The role holder will assist the programme manager and PIs with delivering and reporting on key milestones for all work packages and projects. The post-holder will work alongside the programme manager to coordinate key deliverables of the ambitious LifeArc initiative, both within Cambridge and across the UK-wide centre partners. The role-holder will need to effectively communicate across stakeholders (internal and external), which includes: devising communications strategies, organising meetings/events, assisting with PPIE activity, and regularly reporting to funders and other stakeholders. They will also be involved with the grant lifecycle (ensuring resources are appropriately managed and deployed), and work alongside our friendly and multidisciplinary clinical team to support a range of clinical research studies and trials.
This varied and rewarding role would suit a highly motivated, organised individual who is an exceptional team player with a personable, collaborative approach to assist in facilitating world-class international research. This role provides the opportunity to grow a diversity of skills and learn from experienced team members.
The team and the University of Cambridge are committed, in their pursuit of academic and research excellence, to a pro-active and inclusive approach to equality, which supports and encourages all under-represented groups, promotes an inclusive culture, and values diversity. This is a full-time post but candidates seeking part time/flexible and hybrid working would be considered. The University particularly encourages women and candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds to apply.
Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years (36 months) in the first instance, with the possibility of extending beyond this.
Informal enquiries may be made to Heather Biggs, Research Programme Manager (hb292@cam.ac.uk).
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a standard Disclosure and Barring Service check. This appointment also requires a Research Passport application.
Please ensure that you upload a covering letter and CV in the Upload section of the online application. The covering letter should outline how you match the criteria for the post and why you are applying for this role. If you upload any additional documents which have not been requested, we will not be able to consider these as part of your application.
Please include details of your referees, including email address and phone number, one of which must be your most recent line manager.
Closing date for all applications is Monday 12 January 2026, with interviews to be confirmed soon after.
