The Department of Clinical Biochemistry (IMS-MRL) is a leading centre for research into the causes and consequences of metabolic diseases, bringing together clinicians, scientists and population health experts to advance understanding and improve human health. Soon to be merging with the Epidemiology Unit, the IMS-MRL is entering an exciting period of change. As part of this transition, the Professional Services finance team is evolving to support a larger, more complex organisational structure, creating new opportunities to shape processes, strengthen financial oversight, and contribute to long-term sustainability. You will be joining a team that is contributing to a dynamic research community at a pivotal and forward-looking moment.

The successful candidate will be educated to GCSE level/NVQ level 2 or possess equivalent practical experience. Experience in an administrative role is essential, along with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. You will have good communication skills, strong accuracy and attention to detail and demonstrate knowledge of facts, principles, processes and general concepts related to Finance / Accounts. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word/Outlook/Excel) is essential.

You will work collaboratively as part of the Finance team to ensure the efficient and effective operation of financial processes in the Department. You will act as the first point of contact for accounts payable and receivable administration, as well as supporting month- and year-end processes, including the annual P11D return. You will perform general administrative duties, such as maintaining accurate filing systems, archiving, and assisting with other accounting tasks that support the work of the Finance team.

You will support with departmental purchasing, liaising with budget-holders and suppliers and raising purchase orders. You will be expected to work proactively with academics, researchers, and departmental staff, building strong and effective working relationships to ensure the smooth running of accounts operations.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to continuous improvements within the Department's Finance administration, bringing ineffective processes to the attention of the Deputy Business and Operations Manager and Finance Manager.
