Main duties and responsibilities
De Montfort University is seeking to recruit an experienced researcher to the Textile Engineering and Materials (TEAM) Research Group at the School of Design Innovation. TEAM focus on the research and development of innovative technologies and environmentally friendly textile processes for sustainable textile materials with improved performance. The ideal candidate will work on a BBSRC funded project for the development of biotechnology to recover valuable resources from waste wool and wool blended fabrics for recycling and reuse to support textile sectors transition towards circularity. Based on the potential outcomes from our previous projects, the researcher will establish a process system at pilot scale for the enzymatic recovery of fibres and dyes from waste wool-based textile materials, and their remanufacturing and reuse for textile circularity. Please note that this is a 2 year fixed term contract.
The ideal candidate will have experience in undertaking research at a postgraduate level in Textile Technology, Chemistry, Biological Science or other relevant subjects. A PhD in a relevant subject area is desirable. You will demonstrate knowledge and understanding of textile materials, textile wet-processing, chemical engineering, analysis and evaluation methods. Knowledge of enzymes and enzymatic catalysis would be desirable. Excellent report-writing and presentation skills are essential. The work is part of a collaborative project. The ability to work with other people, sharing tasks as required, is essential.
