Birkbeck, University of London, is seeking a Lecturer in Psychology with research and teaching expertise in Educational Neuroscience, Neuroimaging or Developmental Psychology to join our vibrant School of Psychological Sciences.

You will play a pivotal role in shaping the intellectual development of our students and contribute to cutting-edge research. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a bold and ambitious Psychology subject group, situated in the heart of London’s historic Bloomsbury area.

This post is offered on a three year, fixed-term contract at Birkbeck, full-time at 35 hours per week, with a salary of £44,247 rising to £60,858 per year.

As Lecturer in Psychology, your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Teach and inspire students across diverse settings, from small tutorials to large lectures, with a focus on cognitive development, learning, and brain-behaviour relationships.
  • Develop and deliver engaging teaching materials and methods for undergraduate and postgraduate modules in educational neuroscience, neuroimaging, and developmental psychology.
  • Supervise student projects, dissertations, and research placements, providing academic guidance and mentorship.
  • Engage in high-quality research and contribute to the School's research objectives, with the potential to attract external funding.
  • Participate in outreach and engagement activities to enhance public understanding of educational neuroscience and psychology, as well as contribute to School administration.

As Lecturer you will:

  • Hold a PhD in psychology, educational neuroscience, developmental psychology, cognitive neuroscience, or a closely related field.
  • Have expertise in neuroimaging methods (e.g., fMRI, EEG, MEG) and/or developmental research techniques.
  • Have experience of teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in psychology, neuroscience, or education.
  • Demonstrate strong research skills with a record of publications and potential to secure external funding.
  • Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a commitment to engaging and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.

Desirable:

  • Experience conducting interdisciplinary research bridging psychology, neuroscience, and education.
  • Ability to teach modules in cognitive development, learning sciences, brain imaging, or related areas.
  • Experience mentoring research students and contributing to collaborative research environments.

Remuneration

£44,247 rising to £60,858 per annum. The salary is Grade LLEC on the College's London Pay Scale which includes a consolidated Weighting/Allowance which applies only to staff whose normal contractual place of work is in the London area.
