Adjunct Lecturer in Finance

University of Southampton Delhi in partnership with Oxford International

Location: University of Southampton Delhi, Gurugram, India

Working hours: 3 hours per week

Job Purpose

The role holder’s contribution will be central to the delivery and support of teaching, learning and assessment, relating to the offered modules in the Finance domain for the University of Southampton Delhi. 

The role holder will teach undergraduate and postgraduate modules, like:

  • Stock Market Analysis 
  • Advanced Time Series Analysis

The role holder will be committed to high-quality education and support of learning and to building a vibrant student experience and community. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver the teaching of the allocated units by managing a range of contributions to its learning and teaching activities. Deliver teaching of the highest quality across allocated modules and to all levels, through lectures, tutorials, practicals and seminars.
  • Directly supervise students, providing expert advice on learning best practices and helping with development needs. Promote the use of appropriate media to support student learning. Set and mark coursework and exams, providing constructive feedback to students.

Internal and external relationships

  • The adjunct faculty member is expected to work as per the guidance given by the Head of Business Teaching and to coordinate with the respective module leaders, moderators and external examiners as required.
  • Teaching and administrative duties will be allocated by the Head of Business, within the context of the teaching programmes agreed by the campus Learning and Teaching Committee. 
  • The adjunct faculty member is expected to deliver the allocated module, maintaining the required academic rigour.
  • They will be responsible for ensuring that the lectures and seminars are conducted as per the schedule.
  • They will also be required to get the assessments ready and get them moderated by the assigned moderator and external examiner
  • They will also be required to evaluate the assessments as per the schedule and maintain the necessary confidentiality with internal and external parties 

Person Specification

Qualifications, knowledge and experience

  • DBA/PhD or equivalent professional qualifications and experience in the General Finance domain 
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of stock market analysis, advanced time series modelling or similar modules 
  • Demonstrated success in delivering learning outcomes.
  • Track record of published research in the management domain.
  • Proficiency with relevant tools/software. (Desirable)
  • Membership of Higher Education Academy (Desirable)
  • Membership of a professional marketing bodies (Desirable)
  • Involvement in national and international events. (Desirable)
  • Experience of teaching students where English is a secondary language (Desirable)
  • Demonstrated experience applying finance concepts within multinational organisations, with the ability to draw upon such real-world expertise to foster effective class engagement and translate practical insights into impactful learning experiences for students. (Desirable)

Planning and organising

  • Proven ability to plan and develop a range of high-quality teaching activities. 
  • Proven ability to plan, manage, organise and assess own teaching contributions.
  • Proven ability in the design of course units, curriculum development and new teaching approaches. 

Communicating and influencing

  • Communicate new and complex information effectively, both verbally and in writing, engaging the interest and enthusiasm of the target audience.
  • Track record of delivering lectures and seminars in courses relating to different aspects of the subject area.
  • Able to persuade and influence at all levels to foster and maintain relationships, resolving tensions/ difficulties as they arise.
