An excellent opportunity has come up for an English tutor to join the Study Group team at the University of Strathclyde International Study Centre. The ideal candidate should be a committed, and passionate tutor, with exceptional communication skills and a true passion for providing transformational learning experiences. You will be responsible for teaching Study Group developed English modules (Academic English Skills and Critical Reading and Applied Academic Writing) to students on university preparation programmes including undergraduate International Foundation Year, International Year Two and Pre-Master’s programmes.

You will work with colleagues in the International Study Centre and on occasion across the wider Study Group network to ensure the effective delivery of teaching programmes in line with our teaching, learning and assessment strategy and aims for an outstanding student experience.

Responsibilities include contributing directly to student support and to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices across the Centre, as well as a commitment to CPD and keeping up-to-date with VLE technology.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • Contribute to the design, delivery and development of modules offered by International Study Centre at the University of Strathclyde.
  • Prepare and deliver teaching on Face-to-Face (and on occasion Online/Blended) programmes including live input sessions, seminars/ tutorial sessions and drop-ins with a normal teaching load up to 25 hours per week.
  • Mark students’ formative and summative assessment submissions and provide timely feedback to students on their performance, including during one-to-one tutorials/ Learning Conversations and through regular student reports (usually RAGs).
  • Writing additional reports for sponsored students if and when required.
  • Support CLE in designing, developing, updating and distributing course material for modules and teaching sessions as/if required.
  • Develop and maintain module VLE pages for Standard Delivery, Blended Delivery and Online Delivery as required.
  • Take part in bi-termly Learning conversations with students offering progression and engagement guidance and support.
  • Participate in regular meetings with teaching and support staff contributing to the effective overall management of the programme and student life cycle.
  • Participate in the Centre and University governance structure, including attending compulsory meetings.
  • Liaise with the CLE to aid in the preparation of module examinations and other forms of formative and summative assessment, marking, moderating and providing feedback to students, including re-sit examinations.
  • Carry out any other duty as required from time to time by the Academic Management team and/or Deputy Director for Curriculum and Progression.

ABOUT YOU

  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related subject area
  • Relevant Teaching Qualification: TEFL-I/ TEFLQ status such as CELTA/DELTA/Trinity Dip or equivalent, and/or MA in TESOL/TEFL/Linguistics.
  • A Postgraduate degree in a related subject area (desirable)
  • Experience in teaching EAP
  • Experience of teaching in the UK Higher or Further education sector and preferably a teaching qualification and experience of working with international students
  • Familiarity with online/blended learning and VLE
  • Experience in developing teaching materials
  • Experience in assessment design and marking of students’ academic work
  • Experience in the provision of independent learning and/or on-line language learning
