The Department of Psychiatry is based on the Warneford Hospital site in Oxford – a friendly, welcoming place of work with an international reputation for excellence. The Department has a substantial research programme, with major funding from Medical Research Council (MRC), Wellcome Trust and National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) and provides highly rated medical training in psychiatry.  The Head of Department is Professor Belinda Lennox.

We are seeking a Grants Officer to join our team to provide pre- and post-award administration and tailored financial planning support to Principal Investigators.

About the Role

The post is funded for 3 years and is based in the Department of Psychiatry at the Warneford Hospital. The post is full time, however consideration would be given to candidates wishing to work part-time (minimum 80% FTE on a pro rata basis. The post is available on a hybrid basis with the postholder being expected to work on-site for a minimum of two days each week. 

You will provide comprehensive research grants support, advising researchers on funding opportunities, funder rules, scheme conditions, University policy and procedures and the Department’s funding application process. You will ensure compliance with the University’s and funders’ financial regulations, policies and processes, identifying and mitigating financial risks and priorities throughout the financial year. 

You will also offer guidance and training to researchers and research support staff, including taking responsibility for a portfolio of research grants and developing a strong understanding of the relevant funding rules and reporting requirements. 

About You

You will  be educated to degree level or with equivalent experience, and will have  previous experience in a finance role, ideally within higher education or a large institutional or public-sector setting. You will have experience of research grants administration across both pre- and post-award stages, and  will be able to demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, strong analytical ability and strong numeracy skills.

You will have experience of working collaboratively with colleagues at all levels, and of delivering key financial tasks such as month-end procedures, budget preparation and following core operational processes. You will bring strong written and oral communication skills that enable you to communicate clearly and confidently with a wide range of stakeholders, along with excellent IT skills, including proficiency with finance information systems and spreadsheets such as Excel. Experience of X5 or other costing software, and experience with Oracle Financials, would be desirable.
