About the Role

The Oxford Applied and Theoretical Machine Learning group at the Department of Computer Science is looking for a entrepreneurial Programme Manager to help run the group, in a very dynamic role involving thought partnership on group strategy and direction, and day-to-day operationalising of that vision, working together with Professor Yarin Gal.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for the operations of the research group and will promote and build its global reputation. This post offers an exciting opportunity for someone who is keen to support and collaboratively work with a world-leading research group, and who would be motivated to help find solutions so the group runs efficiently and effectively. You will coordinate with multiple stakeholders across industry and academia to organise and manage the group's project portfolio which is composed of many projects (> £3m).

About the research group

Machine learning (ML), or “AI” as it is referred to by the media, has been the driving force behind the most exciting recent technological advances, having its impact on fields as diverse as medical imaging, conversational agents, astronomy, and many more.

We are a multidisciplinary team of researchers (postdocs, research associates and DPhil students), coming from diverse backgrounds. OATML has 20+ researchers and associates, focused on concurrent projects across domains. We collaborate with world-class ML labs e.g. Google, DeepMind, Apple, GSK, Toyota, JPMorgan, and Intel, as well as with Harvard Medical School, Berkeley AI lab, Montreal’s MILA, among others.

About You

The ideal candidate will expertly coordinate between various departments and teams, write grant proposals, develop project and donor reports, assist in research dissemination by refining the group’s communication, outreach, and collaboration strategies.

These tasks will be in support of research focused on AI model safety, security, reliability and robustness, as well as foundational research on frontier models. This covers topics such as uncertainty quantification and reliable decision-making, multi-agent systems, reasoning, neural network quantisation, on-device machine learning, and benchmark development.
