Professorship for International Business and Management

Hochschule München University of Applied Sciences – Business School

As one of the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany, we offer a comprehensive range of holistic and interdisciplinary topics in business, technology, social science and design. Our challenge and obligation is to actively shape the future through teaching, research and transfer. Working in partnership with business and society is of central importance for us.

To strengthen the HM Business School, we would like to fill the following position by the 2026/27 winter semester or later. The successful candidate should demonstrate an excellent academic track record and extensive practical experience in a responsible position outside academia to contribute actively to research and teaching in an applied sciences environment.

Professorship for International Business and Management (W2)

Reference number: BV 1098

We are looking for you: Scientific, practical, future-oriented

You are a focused person (M/F/X) with scientific expertise and work experience in International Business and General Management.

Globalisation and international value chains are trends continuously re-shaping the world of global business. The successful candidate will reinforce the department’s existing activities whilst also setting new directions and perspectives in teaching and research in the area of international value chains and strategy. The objective is to strengthen the integrative, cross-functional understanding of international business in both basic and advanced programs. The professorship is intended to cover the following topics: International Business, Corporate Strategy and Leadership and Principles of Business Administration. Teaching modules in related fields and other faculties may also be required.

In addition to participating in the teaching and research activities of the department, the successful candidate will demonstrate a willingness to support, and be actively involved, in the future development of curricula and further education courses. An active participation in the department’s committee work is also expected.

The successful candidate should be able to teach and research in English as well as in German and have a high level of proficiency. Since the professorship requires active participation in teaching and committees in German and English, language proficiency should be at C1 level or higher according to the GER for both, evidenced through, for example, relevant language certifications.

A predominantly business-oriented university education and professional leadership experience in international business are required. An important aspect of the professorship will be managing and developing contacts with the department’s international partner universities as well as the professional network in Germany. It is also expected that the successful candidate will be actively involved in applied research projects and will have a record of successful acquisition of third-party funding in the field of technology and knowledge transfer.

International practical experiences lie at the heart of the successful candidate’s versatile methodological toolkit for both teaching and research. This requires a commitment to modern teaching methods, such as action learning, coaching-oriented knowledge transfer and the integration of digital pedagogical techniques in the classroom.

You are excited about teaching, applied research and transfer and have your own expertise and competence within these areas.

You are a person who

  • Enjoys working and finding solutions as part of a team

  • You actively contribute to the development of your field of research, the internationalisation of the department and the self-administration of the university.
  • In addition, you are engaged in applied research projects, and in the area of knowledge and technology transfer.

Requirements

  • University degree
  • Teaching skills, which you will demonstrate in trial classes, and in other ways
  • Special aptitude for scientific work, which is proven by a doctorate or by an expert opinion certifying academic achievements equivalent to a doctorate
  • Special achievements in the application or development of scientific knowledge and methods in the course of at least five years of work experience, gained after obtaining a university degree and of which at least three years must have been practised outside of the academic sector. In special cases, work experience outside of the academic sector can be provided by proving that a significant part of your work was carried out in cooperation between the university and non-academic partners over a period of at least five years.
