Anderson Quigley is delighted to be supporting Arizona State University London on the appointment of a Head of Business Systems, the most senior IT leadership role within the organisation.
About ASU London:
ASU London represents a landmark moment in UK Higher Education. Launched following the acquisition and rebrand of The Engineering & Design Institute London (TEDI-London), ASU London builds on TEDI’s innovative, mission led foundations while entering a new phase of growth, scale and institutional maturity under the stewardship of Arizona State University.
Arizona State University is widely recognised as one of the world’s leading and most innovative universities, consistently ranked number one in the United States for innovation and renowned for its global outlook, applied learning, and strong links to industry. ASU London brings this prestige, ambition and academic philosophy into the UK system, creating a distinctive institution with international reach and long-term backing.
Terms:
This is a permanent appointment, based in London, with 3 days per week required on site. The role will initially be based at ASU London’s Canada Water campus, with a planned move to Clerkenwell during 2026. A full-time working pattern is preferred, although part-time at 4 days per week would be considered.
Overview:
ASU London is seeking an experienced and credible IT leader to take ownership of its technology function at a crucial point in the institution’s development. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, as Head of Business Systems, you will provide both strategic leadership and hands on oversight across all aspects of IT, digital infrastructure and business systems, ensuring that ASU London’s technology enables institutional growth, regulatory compliance and an excellent student and staff experience.
This is the number one IT role at ASU London and requires a “one sleeve rolled up, one sleeve rolled down” style of leadership. You will be responsible for setting a clear IT roadmap aligned to the university’s strategic growth plans, whilst also ensuring the fundamentals are robust, secure and fit for purpose. Your priorities will also include strengthening governance and compliance (including OfS and HE data requirements), overseeing core systems such as the student record system, LMS and CRM, managing suppliers and outsourced partners, and supporting a forthcoming campus relocation whilst maintaining continuity of service.
You will lead a small internal team alongside specialist contractors and external providers, which will require your strong judgement around in house capability, outsourcing and value for money.
This role also offers clear scope to evolve. As ASU London grows in scale and complexity, there is potential for this position to develop into a Director level role with broader remit and progression over time.
Essential criteria:
Previous Higher Education experience is essential for this appointment. We are looking for a senior IT leader with demonstrable experience operating in a regulated HE environment, including a strong grasp of OfS requirements, HESA data, and HE governance and compliance.
You will bring deep, current knowledge of modern university systems and architectures, including student record systems, CRM, LMS and Microsoft based environments, alongside experience of vendor, supplier and contract management.
We also require someone who can operate confidently at leadership level, whilst also being comfortable engaging operationally when required. Strong leadership credibility, sound judgement, and a customer focused mindset are essential, as is the ability to articulate technology strategy clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
