Hong Kong Branch of National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction
The Hong Kong Branch of National Engineering Research Center for Steel Construction (CNERC-Steel) was established at PolyU by the State Ministry of Science and Technology in October 2015. It is established to promote sustainable infrastructure development through effective use of constructional steel materials and modern technology in structural engineering. The core objectives of the CNERC-Steel are: (i) To establish a high level technological platform to enable effective design and construction of modern building and civil engineering structures to promote sustainable infrastructure development in Hong Kong; and (ii) To advance technological capabilities of the Hong Kong Construction Industry in design and construction of super high-rise buildings, long-span bridges and buildings of large enclosure using high performance materials in Hong Kong and overseas.
The CNERC-Steel promotes technological developments and internationalisation of the steel construction industry in both Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. It is actively engaged with international as well as national exchanges in research and development of steel construction.

The University is now inviting both internal and external applications and nominations for the post of the Director of CNERC-Steel. The successful candidate will be appointed Chair Professor/Professor normally on regular terms of appointment (equivalent to tenured professorship), commensurate with his/her qualifications and experience, and will hold the concurrent directorship appointment. The concurrent directorship appointment is usually for a term of three years on a renewable basis.

The position calls for a visionary academic leader with responsibilities of ensuring the smooth and successful operation and sustainable development of the Research Centre. Reporting to both the Head of the home Unit(s) and the Vice President (Research), the appointee will be required to:
