Hybrid working – subject to agreement
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join University College, Oxford as the College Accountant. Reporting directly to the Finance and Investment Bursar, the College Accountant is very much a “hands on” role, central to the effective running of the College’s financial administration and management reporting. The role also supports strategic decision-making by providing robust analysis, advice and financial reports to the College’s Finance Committee and senior management.
Over time the postholder will be expected to become the primary source of financial information and a key advisor in all financial decision making. You will also play an active role in the initiation, development, and implementation of enhancements to finance operations across the College and longer-term strategic and financial plans.
A recognised accounting qualification, solid experience of using accounting packages, preparing statutory accounts, and working effectively with external auditors are essential. VAT, payroll experience, and knowledge of charity accounts are desirable.
Moreover, you will have the ability to work with a wide range of people and will build good relationships with the academic Fellows of the College and non-academic members of staff. An ability to work with individual students is also important, as is a general sympathy for the College’s academic and educational ethos. In addition, you will demonstrate an ability to grasp the complexities of the College whilst providing a vision of how the Finance function can evolve to improve the overall management and efficiency of the College.
In return, the College offers amongst other benefits a generous holiday provision, pension, private healthcare, free lunches, cycle scheme, and flexible working.
