About us
Established in 2021, Opportunity Green is a fast-growing not-for-profit organisation that helps to identify and unlock opportunities to tackle climate change. We build ambitious coalitions, support climate vulnerable countries in international negotiations and find innovative legal pathways to fight climate change.
What’s the role?
Opportunity Green’s Analytics Team has grown organically out of two separate projects: one to embed economics thinking into our climate diplomacy work and the other to ensure that the use of ammonia as a shipping fuel does not do more damage than the fossil fuels it might replace. This gives a flavour of the diverse set of projects that someone leading this team will get to direct and design. The Analytics team will be a ‘hybrid’ function at Opportunity Green, serving both as an in-house consultancy to ensure other OG teams have access to the best possible science, data and analytics to underpin their work, but also as a team in its own right developing its own projects to deliver OG’s strategic aims.
We are looking for a Director of Analytics to lead this team, with responsibility for developing, managing and undertaking standalone Analytics projects as well as coordinating and providing research support across Opportunity Green, maintaining a high standard of quantitative output and ensuring we apply the best existing science across the organisation. You will manage one scientist when you join OG and, once in place, a second junior member of the team will be hired under your direction. Given the initially small size of the team, you will be expected to both deliver team leadership and oversight, as well as carrying out analytical and scientific work yourself. You will report to the CEO.
We are open to candidates with any climate-relevant scientific or analytics background, including economics, finance, data analysis, natural sciences or energy systems. We are looking for someone with an ability to think strategically about the use of analysis to influence policy, and to build, develop and manage a team of analysts and scientists. Experience in fundraising and/or developing successful research grant applications would be a bonus.
