A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the research group of Professor Andy Cooper. You will bring your specialist expertise to strengthen areas that are relevant to our research, particularly by providing expert advice in crystallography in our existing projects and by leading the development of new, automated methods for the discovery and characterisation of crystalline materials using both powder and single crystal X-ray diffractometers. A key initial focus will be to develop a unique facility for ultrafast single-crystal X-ray diffraction. You should have a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics or Materials Science and skills in crystallography (including advanced skills in solving crystal structures) as well as the ability to take responsibility for research planning and organisation.
You will develop new research directions and solve key problems arising across the group. The post will require a flexible approach in terms of willingness to change research direction, where required, and to follow the strongest research opportunities. This is not a single project-focused role, although an initial focus will be on establishing the new high-throughput X-ray facility. In the longer term, the role is aimed at leading research activity in our group across multiple projects with the opportunity to develop your own ideas.
The post is available for 2 years initially.
If you are still awaiting your PhD to be awarded you will be appointed at Grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that you have been awarded your PhD, your salary will be increased to Grade 7, spine point 31.
