We have an exciting opportunity for a Research and Business Engagement Officer in the School of Chemical, Materials and Biological Engineering to contribute to the development of UK capability in the design selection of materials and quality of manufacture for mission critical high integrity components.

The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the engagement activities of the programme. Working as the industry-facing member of the research team, you will build interactions with existing and new partners. Exploring opportunities to inject digital technologies and industry 4.0 philosophy into small medium enterprises and large multi-nationals based on the research outputs of the group. You will interact with other academic and industry projects with a similar focus, ensuring coordination between projects and helping improve visibility across projects.

The role will allow you to explore funding opportunities for collaborative programmes with industry and academic partners to further the research outputs of the group. You will act as a point of contact and develop expert working groups to support the development and implementation of strategies and policies proposed as a result of the research being undertaken. You will help to organise a Digital Materials Forum to be held in Sheffield to showcase the development of digital technologies in the materials and high value manufacturing sectors.

You should have experience in materials science, engineering, physical science or other relevant disciplines. You should also have experience with engagement activities and securing funding for industry or academic projects. Additionally, you should have effective communication skills, both written and verbal, report writing skills, experience of delivering presentations. The role is flexible with full-time for six months, or part-time (minimum 50%) over an extended period also considered.
