As an Assistant Professor, you will be expected to bring academic rigor, a student first mindset, and a bold, future ready approach to teaching and learning excellence at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate teaching excellence in the public or private sector and will have a recognised professional accounting qualification.

Assistant Professor in Accounting

This role is suited for an early to mid-career academic with a strong foundation in teaching. The Assistant Professor will play an active role in designing and delivering modules across Accounting and Finance undergraduate and potentially postgraduate programmes, supporting student learning, and contributing to the academic life of the department. The appointee will also be encouraged to engage in research and/or scholarly activities aligned with the University's academic goals.

Key responsibilities and duties: 

  • Design, deliver, and manage courses in Accounting and Finance at undergraduate and potentially postgraduate levels, ensuring relevance to academic standards, industry practices, and economic trends.
  • Prepare course materials, including lesson plans, assessments, and evaluation reports, aligned with university quality standards.
  • Integrate research-informed and industry-aligned practices into teaching, learning, assessment, and feedback.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations and applied research projects in accountancy and economics.
  • Be up to date with their field to be able to engage in curriculum innovation, in areas such as accounting standards (e.g., IFRS), taxation and data analytics in finance
  • Contribute to academic administration, including moderation of assessments, programme review, and compliance with quality assurance protocols.
  • Support a positive student experience through mentoring, academic advising, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and collaborative academic initiatives.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to maintain professional qualifications and enhance teaching and academic leadership capabilities in Accounting and Finance.

About you

Experience

Essential

  1. A Chartered Accountant with membership of ACCA, CIMA or ICAEW and professional work experience.
  2. Experience with a proven ability to design and deliver high quality, industry informed teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, primarily in accounting and finance-related subjects.
  3. Experience contributing to curriculum development and programme enhancement, ensuring alignment with academic standards and evolving industry needs 

Desirable

  1. Recent Industry experience to enable practise based learning to be delivered.
  2. Proactive and engaged in the Accounting community and professional bodies 

Education, qualifications and training

Essential

  1. A Chartered Accountant with membership of ACCA, CIMA or ICAEW.
  2. Hold a good first degree from a globally recognised institution.

Desirable

  1. Teaching qualification or Fellowship of HEA or commitment to complete qualification.
  2. Second degree or higher from a globally recognised institution

  1. Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum design
  2. Active engagement in pedagogical improvement, through professional development, or involvement in academic networks, with a strong commitment to innovative teaching and continuous learning.
  3. Ability to contribute to the school's strategic ambition to address global/societal challenges of our time and to ensure that students receive an industry appropriate education.
  4. Evidence of excellent organisational and administrative skills.
