About the role 

We have an exciting opportunity for two Patient and Public Involvement Officers to join Oxford Cancer, a city-wide research initiative and partnership between Oxford University, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, Thames Valley Cancer Alliance, and the Oxfordshire Clinical Commissioning Group. This role supports the delivery of high-quality patient and public involvement (PPI) across research activities. The post-holder will work collaboratively with colleagues, researchers and patient and public representatives to coordinate inclusive involvement activities. This post will have general responsibility for supporting the coordination and delivery of patient and public involvement (PPI) across Oxford Cancer. Oxford Cancer’s PPI activities aim to ensure research is informed by diverse public perspectives, strengthening quality, relevance and impact across the research lifecycle. 

Examples of this work includes facilitating PPI in our pump prime funding schemes, working with our Centres of Excellence (Colorectal, Liver, Oesophageal), integrating PPI opportunities into our DPhil Programme, operating our PPI Buddy Scheme, developing resources, handling researcher enquiries, working with our Digitrials and contributing towards our PPI event programme. 

This post is based at OCDEM, Churchill Hospital, OX3 7LE and is offered on a full-time (Part time hours, minimum 0.8 FTE worked over no fewer than 4 days, may be considered) fixed-term basis until 31 December 2027.

About you 

You will have a good understanding of the purpose, value and impact of public and patient involvement (PPI) in research, with evidence of promoting and supporting the inclusion of PPI within research activities. You will be able to work effectively with a range of stakeholders, recognising and respecting different perspectives, and developing and maintaining positive working relationships with patient and public representatives and other stakeholders, including setting appropriate boundaries. 

You will have strong written and verbal communication skills, producing clear, accessible information in plain English for different audiences, with the ability to support and facilitate inclusive meetings and involvement activities. You will demonstrate awareness of PPI methods and good practice principles, a commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, excellent attention to detail, and proven knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email clients.
