Salary: Full time starting salary is normally in the range £31,396 to £33,966 with potential progression once in post to £35,116 

Job Context/ Summary

The School of Maths is a vibrant and thriving academic community within the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences with over 80 research active academic staff, around 15 postdoctoral researchers and around 70 postgraduate students. We seek to appoint an Operations Officer who has enthusiasm and the ability to work with confidence to support the day-to-day operational running as part of the School of Maths Operations Team. The postholder will form part of the School of Maths Professional Services Operations team reporting to the School Operations Manager. They will be able to work independently as well as being a strong team player.

 Job Summary

This is a challenging and rewarding position, providing executive and administrative support to the School of Maths as part of the Operations team. In addition, the role holder will be required to provide other general administration support as required and agreed with their line Manager, the Operations Manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, Experience

  • Educated to at least Degree level (or equivalent qualifications and work experience) and hold GCSEs in Mathematics and English at C or above (or equivalent)
  • Excellent IT skills, especially use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • A high level of discretion and sensitivity in dealing with confidential matters
  • Ability and demonstrable experience of working accurately and paying close attention to detail
  • Aptitude to prioritise own workload and to complete all tasks accurately and to a routinely high standard even when working to challenging and/or conflicting deadlines
  • Significant self-initiative and ability to carry out projects from conception to conclusion.
  • Ability to take accurate notes and minutes
  • Excellent demonstrable interpersonal, organisational, team working and communication skills.
  • Experience of working in a large and complex organisation
  • A high degree of initiative, personal judgement, resourcefulness, flexibility and a self-motivating approach, as well as the ability to complete tasks based on only broad direction and with minimum supervision
  • Ability to analyse and deal with problems with an appreciation of longer-term implications and taking account of all stakeholders.
  • Experience of working collaboratively as part of a wider team to deliver operational or strategic goals.
  • An understanding of what equality and diversity is and why it is important, including an ability to learn about relevant policies and procedures relating to equality and diversity.

Desirable

  • Experience of working in Higher Education.
